About CBE

 

Our mission

The mission of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, State University of New York at Buffalo is to:

  • educate and train BS, certificate, and M.Eng. students in the fundamental principles of chemical engineering, to expose them to current trends in this and related fields, and to prepare them for responsible, professional practice;

  • deepen MS and PhD students' understanding of the fundamentals of chemical engineering, to provide them with state of the art specialization in their selected area of emphasis, and to help them find employment appropriate to their skills;

  • expand the frontiers of knowledge in chemical engineering science, apply this knowledge to advance technologies in the field, and enrich both chemical engineering and other fields of science and technology through interdisciplinary interactions; and

  • make the department's technical expertise available to industry, government, and community.

Tzanakakis

Department researchers are pursuing engineering of tissue equivalents mimicking the native pancreas. Here a tissue section from mouse pancreas shows the insulin-producing cells fluorescing green against the rest of the pancreatic tissue (exocrine tissue) fluorescing red.
