Overview
Heterogeneous catalysts are materials that increase the rate of chemical reactions or that affect the selectivity of systems of reactions. Our particular interests are in the use of heterogeneous catalysis for producing fuels and chemicals from renewable sources; mechanistic modeling of heterogeneous catalytic reactions; quantum chemical modeling of species involved in heterogeneous catalytic mechanisms; and methods for the design and development of heterogeneous catalysts. A related interest is in the development and assessment of tools to facilitate active learning in engineering courses, particularly in courses involving catalysis or kinetics.
