Liang Qiao Ph.D. Student

University at Buffalo built the PhD program of Chemical Engineering with great reputation over the last few decades, whereby ambitious young minds gather to advance sciences and technologies for the greater welfare of humankind. With the strategic coordination of Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering and Material Science research in both theoretical and experimental domains, CBE of UB keeps showing solid determination to be competitive and productive on research frontiers. With no doubt did I choose CBE of UB when the offer letter hit my mailbox. It is my great honor to conduct research in this department.

With 3 years' honing of the professional knowledge and exquisite lab skills in Dr. Swihart's lab, my research focuses on the preparation and characterization of transition metal oxide nanomaterials and their derivatives, e.g. Magnetite, Anatase, Zincite, etc. Novel physical and chemical properties reveal themselves as the materials downsize to critical level. By designing the process of nanomaterial synthesis, desired morphology and associated properties can be achieved with high precision. Promising applications on drug delivery, multimodal imaging, magnetic-field-controlled behavior, photovoltaics, gas sensor and energy storage emerge consequently. In short, I design, synthesize, and utilize nanomaterials to achieve promising applications

I love rain and snow, and the city of Buffalo caters that with unprecedented high standards. The friendly, competitive and energetic atmosphere of the CBE department stimulates me to move forward, meanwhile the support from friends, staff and faculty helps boil wild imaginations down to solid results.
