Mark Beauharnois Ph.D. Student

Mark is working in Sriram Neelamegham's bioengineering laboratory in the general area of anti-inflammatory drug development, specifically setting up experiments that mimic the forces on particular types of cells as they move through the bloodstream. The engineering component of this kind of research elucidates physical processes that affect the efficacy of a drug design. “You can design a drug that works in vitro but not in the body. We're trying to see that forces that act on a drug where it's supposed to work.”

Mark plans to do a post-doc year, to take the step from working in a lab to running a lab, and then take a research position in the pharmaceutical or biotech industries.

“This department has good research opportunities in both the materials science area and the biological area and across both areas.&rdquo
